Jonathan Charles Vintage Marine Animals Framed Prints - Set of 4

This four-print series reflects Jonathan Charles’ appreciation for 19th-century natural history illustration and the enduring romance of the sea. Inspired by period marine studies, lobsters, shrimp and crabs are rendered with scientific precision and painterly restraint. Shells, antennae and segmented forms are carefully observed, celebrating the intricate beauty of marine life through an archival lens. Antique silver frames and layered matting introduce depth and subtle luminosity, lending the works a sculptural presence.

Printed on Awagami handmade Japanese paper from the Fujimori family mill in Tokushima, the illustrations gain the softness and material depth of a centuries-old papermaking tradition, lending an archival luminosity to each marine study.

Together, the series reimagines scholarly marine illustration as refined decorative art, bridging historic study with contemporary elegance.
