Jonathan Charles Marine Geometry Artwork

Marine Geometry celebrates the timeless artistry of straw marquetry, combining intricate craftsmanship with sophisticated contemporary design. Set against a richly textured linen ground, the artwork showcases carefully arranged geometric compositions created from meticulously prepared and hand-dyed straw strips. The result is a refined interplay of pattern, texture and natural luminosity that brings depth and quiet elegance to the piece.

Originating in 17th-century Europe, straw marquetry is a highly skilled decorative art form known for its precision and subtle beauty. Each flattened strand of dyed straw is individually placed to create complex geometric designs, while the natural sheen of the material softly catches the light, producing a gentle shimmer and dimensional quality unique to this time-honoured technique.

Balancing artisanal heritage with modern styling, Marine Geometry introduces warmth, texture and understated luxury into contemporary interiors. Perfect for sophisticated living rooms, hallways, bedrooms or design-led spaces, this statement artwork creates a serene focal point while celebrating the beauty of craftsmanship and natural materials.
